Every Indian 90s and early 2000s kid remembers the show ‘Shaka Laka Boom Boom’. In it, the protagonist Sanju used to have a magical pencil through which everything Sanju drew came to life. The show became one of the dearest shows for Indian kids of that era. Now, there is something that can take one back to that old show giving a huge deal of nostalgia to one’s mind.
‘Harold And The Purple Crayon’ is a movie directed by debutant Carlos Saldanha and written by David Guion and Michael Handelman. The movie is based on a 1955 children’s book by Crockett Johnson, in which a boy named Harold has a magical crayon through which everything you draw can come to life. The movie stars Zachary Levi as Harold. It is produced by John Davis. It was released in America on 2nd of August, and did not receive very good reviews. Now the movie is set to be exclusively released in India by Sony Pictures Entertainment India on 23rd August.
The movie is a sequel to the original book. In it a young Harold tries to escape from the book into the real world in which he succeeds. He discovers that his crayon works in the real world too and he begins his adventure in the real world. The plot intensifies with innocent Harold understanding the nature of the world and meeting adversaries. He gets to know the possible happenings if the crayon gets into the wrong hands.
The plot is a unique and creative one with a focus on the imaginative aspects. The idea of creating a sequel of a book is quite intriguing. Though the movie received bad reviews, still it was able to make $20 million in America, and now is coming to India for release. The movie has a concept that will take the Indian youth to nostalgia and can potentially create a buzz due to the same, if marketed correctly.
