For ages now, the global release of a licensed film and its Indian release have been out of sync, resulting in many issues. Spoilers are just the tip of the iceberg, with the main trouble being piracy. This hurts platforms significantly, and now Harom Hara is suffering from this problem.
So, what has been the deal?
Harom Hara is now available on several piracy websites, even before its Indian release. Regarding the film’s licensing, Prime Video had the global rights, while Aha and ETV Win were supposed to stream it for Indian viewers.
But there was a controversy.
The delay in the release of Harom Hara is reportedly due to YouTuber Praneeth Hanumanthu’s recent detention for inappropriate comments. Praneeth, who made his film debut in Harom Hara, prompted regret from Sudheer Babu for his casting. The decision was made to edit out Praneeth’s scenes before the film’s digital release.
According to recent updates, Praneeth Hanumanthu has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody. This situation is not only affecting his career but has also significantly impacted the producers. Despite promising a release on July 11th, the OTT platforms backed off and are now promising no specific release date.
Because of this delay, the global audience who are subscribed to Prime Video got to see the film first. Some sources say that Prime Video later took it down, but it was too late.
Events like this will definitely damage regional platforms such as ETV or Aha, which have faith in films with a good chunk of audience. Although Harom Hara has an IMDb score of 9.1, the reviews by critics are extremely mediocre.
