Finally! After a long wait and a lot of patience, we officially have our main trio for HBO’s Harry Potter TV series. Dominic McLaughlin has been cast as Harry Potter, while Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton have been chosen to play Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, respectively.
After “tens of thousands” of children auditioned, showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner, along with executive producer and director Mark Mylod, opened up about the casting decisions.
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”
The search for the leading trio began last September with an open casting call. By December, Mylod announced that 30,000 young hopefuls had already auditioned for the highly sought-after parts.
McLaughlin, Stout, and Stanton will join the rest of the cast, which includes talents such as Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall, John Lithgow as Professor Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Professor Severus Snape, Luke Thallon as Professor Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
The new Harry Potter TV series, executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts (Brontë Film & TV), and David Heyman (Heyday Films), promises a faithful adaptation of Rowling’s beloved books. It will introduce a new cast to a new generation of fans, packed with the rich detail and familiar characters that have captivated audiences for over two decades. Stay tuned for more updates.
