Last night, it was reported by an online portal that Hollywood actress Amber Heard’s role of Mera in James Wan’s upcoming superhero movie ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ was cut out. It was also being said that Amber Heard’s role would be recast in the film. This basically implied that she was fired from ‘Aquaman 2’.
However, it seems that the reports about Amber Heard’s recasting in the ‘Aquaman’ sequel have turned out to be just a rumor. Because Amber Heard is reportedly still there in ‘Aquaman 2’. Amber Heard’s representative has called the recasting rumour as inaccurate and insensitive. It is now being speculated that Amber Heard’s role has not been completely cut from the film, but her role would be small.
This recent casting update speculation came on the heels of the highly publicized six-week long defamation case against Amber Heard by her former husband Johnny Depp. You might already be aware that Johnny Depp had sued the ‘Aquaman’ actress Amber Heard for a $50 million defamation case on account of the latter’s remark in The Washington Post in 2018. Eventually, Johnny Depp was awarded $10.35 million in damages by the jury.
Interestingly, around a month ago, DC Films chief Walter Hamada had given a statement that Amber Heard was still in ‘Aquaman 2’. However, it was also said that the makers had thought about recasting her because of lack of chemistry with the film’s lead actor Jason Momoa. However, later, the makers apparently retained her role in the film.
Moreover, it’s noteworthy that Aquaman 2’s filming has already concluded in January earlier this year and the film is now into the post-production stage. So, it seems quite unlikely and logistically impractical that Amber Heard would be replaced by another actress and her scenes with Jason Momoa and other actors would be reshot. Besides ‘Aquaman 2’, Amber Heard will also be seen in a period thriller film titled ‘In the Fire’ in the lead role. As of now, ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ is slated for a theatrical release on 17th March 2023, if everything goes as planned.
