Hasan Minhaj, Award winning American comedian of Indian descent is being trolled for his comments on Indian gods during one of his Netflix shows. Hasan Minhaj’s ‘Patriot Act’ on Netflix has 6 seasons and the recent ‘The King’s Jester’ is gaining popularity too. In his Netflix stand-up special, he referred to Ganesha as an elephant, and Hindu fans are not taking the comment very positively.
It has happened previously with comedians like Munawar Fauruqui and the thin line between making the audience laugh and offending them is sometimes confusing for comedians. Twitter users are trolling Hasan for making these comments and netizens are clearly very angry about it.
Many comedians had to face many consequences before when they had made derogatory comments on any religion, also Vir Das was trolled for his show ‘Two Indias’. Twitter users are asking questions on why actions should not be taken against Minhaj and Netflix. But audiences need to understand that a joke is a joke and it is not always meant to demean or insult any country, religion or any such community. The comedians too should keep in mind what the audiences do not like.
People are bashing against Netflix and Netflix India for allowing such comments on the platform. It is indeed a difficult job to keep in mind what can affect the viewership badly and what can offend the audiences. It is not the first time that netizens are angry with Netflix for such reasons. Previously, in the series ‘Khakee: The Bihar Chapter’ audiences were angry over a character’s comments that Hindi was the national language of India.
