In February, Netflix started displaying the top ten most popular TV shows and movies every day in an effort to showcase programs that would otherwise go unnoticed and also acting as an indicator for the shows’ renewal for another season.
In an effort to better understand the impact of the top ten list on the shows’ popularity there is a point based system wherein each program in the top ten list is ranked according to their performance since its inception.In this system, points are assigned from 1-10 inverse of their spot on the chart.
Let’s talk about the Netflix Originals, as last updated, Ozark comes up as the top winner and Outer Banks at a close second. Dead to Me, Sweet Magnolias, Never Have I Ever all make it to the top of the list.
Then there are the shows which Netflix licenses from other studios which included All American as the reigning champ followed by Riverdale, Avatar – The Last Airbender, The Office, and Waco.Other lists that were made were on basis of genre, language, and country.
Ultimately compiling all these lists, the TV show that took the number one spot was Tiger King. Ozark, Outer Banks, Love is Blind and All American closely followed.
It’s no surprise that looking at these lists their popularity plays a huge role in them getting a renewal or not. Even though some of these shows such as Sweet Magnolias and Never Have I Ever are becoming fan-favourites, Netflix has not made any announcements for their second season yet.
