It looks like the ongoing rumours about Hawkeye Season 2 being inspired by The Raid movies have some truth to them, confirmed by the leading man, Jeremy Renner, who played Clint Barton in Season 1.
Renner recently appeared on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, where he revealed that there’s some legitimacy to the rumours suggesting the upcoming second season will take inspiration from The Raid films, with most of its events unfolding in a single location.
“Maybe some of that’s true,” Renner said. “We got into it a little bit, sort of storywise and stuff, in doing another season. Everyone’s interested in it – I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course, man, I would not want to say no to that.’ I think there is a lot of ideas that they still got to figure out – I’m always game to do it, it’s a fun world and I love being part of it.”
The rumours also mention the possible debut of Barney Barton, Clint’s brother. At this point, nothing is confirmed, as Marvel Studios has not yet officially announced Season 2 of the popular Disney+ series.
Renner didn’t give anything significant away but did say he’s “interested” in seeing where the second entry goes—if it ever comes to fruition.
The Hawkeye actor recently made headlines after revealing that Marvel Studios offered him only half of the salary he received for Season 1, a scenario that left him very unhappy. There are also rumours suggesting that the second season is in development without Renner, focusing solely on Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop.
The current creative overhaul, led by Kevin Feige, has brought some noticeable changes to Marvel Studios’ strategy for the next 10 years. This includes a reduced focus on Disney+ projects and a renewed emphasis on theatrical releases.
Additionally, there are reports that Vision Quest may be the last Marvel TV series to feature a major character—Vision (Paul Bettany)—as future shows are expected to spotlight lesser-known characters, making appearances by prominent heroes even more significant.
In the interview, Jeremy Renner also mentioned that his decision to step back from Marvel was driven by a desire to prioritise his family. However, he clarified that he has always been open to returning to the MCU.
Having significantly recovered from his serious snowplow accident over two years ago, Renner resumed his acting career last year with the series Mayor of Kingstown, and he’s also set to appear in Rian Johnson’s upcoming Netflix film, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Stay tuned for more updates.
