“Do ya really wanna, do ya really wanna taste it?”
Get ready to hear this song again as HBO Max has renewed DCEU’s Peacemaker for a second season. It means we will see John Cena coming back for a sophomore instalment. The Guardians of the Galaxy helmer, James Gunn, and the official social media pages of the streaming service have confirmed this amazing piece of news on Wednesday.
Peacemaker series serves as a ‘The Suicide Squad’ spin-off entry with Cena leading the charge. There were a lot of talks among the DC fanbase about Warner Bros’ decision to go with a series based on a character who is the douchebag version of Captain America. But it has received strong reviews from critics and fans all around the world. Fans highly praised the performances of the cast (especially Cena’s and Freddie Stroma’s as Vigilante) and the director’s flawless utilisation of the Rated-R genre.
The thing that has impressed the viewers so far is the transition of Peacemaker from a ‘piece of s#it’ superhero to a guy who starts thinking about good things in his life. We know his SOB father, August Smith aka White Dragon (Robert Patrick), was responsible for his traumatic childhood. Now, he has good people around him. And Vigilante is his best friend. We all need a guy like him in our lives. Seriously!
Peacemaker’s mission was to find the origin of a dangerous alien race, Butterflies, and eliminate it for good to protect the planet Earth. He receives much-needed help from his team, consisting of Leota Adebayo (Amanda Waller’s daughter), Vigilante (Adrian Chase), Clemson Murn, Emilia Harcourt, and John Economus.
Apart from all the things mentioned above, Gunn treasures some ideas about more Suicide Squad spin-offs, scheduled to dispatch in future. In his recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said:
“One of the things that [Warner Bros. chair and CEO] Ann Sarnoff has been big on is trying to make DC work in a more organized and integrated way. I wasn’t there before so I don’t know how things were done but since I started at HBO Max a year and a half ago, we spend a lot of time talking with Toby [Emmerich, Warner Bros. Pictures chair] and Walter [Hamada, president of DC Films] and Jim Lee at DC and we’re trying to be mindful about how all the pieces work together. In my estimation, it feels very well organized. That’s something that was very important to Ann when she started a few years ago.”
The series’ finale is ready to air on February 17. It stars John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Robert Patrick, and many more.
