HBO has officially ordered drama series ‘True Detective: Night Country’ from showrunner, writer, director and executive producer Issa López. To be shot in Iceland, this latest fourth instalment of the ‘True Detective’ franchise has Kali Reis joining Jodie Foster in the lead.
The official logline of HBO’s ‘True Detective: Night Country’ reads, “When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
In addition to starring Foster also serves as executive producer for ‘True Detective: Night Country’ alongside Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski and Mark Cerya through PASTEL; Anonymous Content, Mari Jo Winkler, Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Cary Joji Fukunaga, and Nic Pizzolatto. The series is co-written by Alan Page Arriaga who also executive produces the show.
Kali Reis is an American professional boxer and actress who made her acting debut in the independent film, ‘Catch The Fair One’. She received a special Jury Mention for Best Actress for the film at the Tribeca Film Festival where it won the Audience Award. Her upcoming project includes Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire’s ‘Black Flies’ starring Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan.
Kali is also a motivational speaker and vocal supporter of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls movement, and teaches young Native women how to fight, both physically and vocally, against the targeting of Native youth.
