DC Studios has managed to sign several exciting and seriously talented actors and actresses for its budding superhero franchise, the DCU. One of the projects lined up for release in 2026 is the HBO series Lanterns, led by Kyle Chandler (Hal Jordan) and Aaron Pierre (John Stewart). Apart from these two gentlemen, the series boasts some well-talented performers. Now, it has reportedly found a new cast member.
According to prominent Hollywood scooper and journalist Jeff Sneider, DC Studios has finalised Laura Linney for HBO’s Lanterns series, although Sneider isn’t sure which character she will portray on the show.
However, it seems like DC fans may have already cracked the mystery.
Who is Laura Linney? Well, she has starred in plenty of popular TV shows, including Netflix’s Ozark and Tales of the City. You might also recognise her from movies like Mystic River, Love Actually, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sully, Nocturnal Animals, and more.
Linney is also the proud recipient of numerous accolades, including two Golden Globes and three Emmys, along with three Academy Award nominations.
According to fans, Laura Linney could be playing Carol Ferris, aka Star Sapphire, in HBO’s Lanterns. Carol is Hal Jordan’s girlfriend. Plus, Kyle Chandler is 59 and Linney is 61, so it makes sense for her to take on the role. We could see both actors portraying middle-aged versions of their respective characters in the show.
A large section of the fanbase has voiced concerns about focusing on an older Hal Jordan in the upcoming HBO series, believing that the Green Lantern character needed someone younger to support a long-running story arc. Still, Chandler is a great actor, and having him team up with Linney wouldn’t be a bad thing.
This suggests that John Stewart is expected to be the main Green Lantern in the DCU, not Hal Jordan. Lanterns could indeed depict the passing of the baton from Hal to John. Stay tuned for more updates.
