The finale of the second season of HBO’s Our Flag Means Death received a highly diverse response from both critics and fans, with many of them hailing it as anticlimactic. The sophomore entry has gone through plenty of plot twists. Our beloved duo of Ed (Taika Waititi) and Stede (Rhys Darby) retire from their chaotic swashbuckling lives and decide to open a new life chapter by becoming innkeepers. Plus, we witnessed Izzy Hands (Con O’Neill) meeting his demise. These storylines gave “The Show Concluding” vibes to many viewers. Will we get Season 3? Let’s find out!
HBO CEO Casey Bloys discussed the possibility of Our Flag Means Death Season 3 in a recent interview with TV Insider. He revealed that the show’s renewal status looked foggy. “We’re trying to figure out, does it make sense [to renew]? So I don’t really have an answer for anybody at this point.”
Given the way Season 2 culminated, Our Flag Means Death deserves one more season. Some plot elements may not be explored further in the next season. But we should expect one more showdown between Ricky and Zheng in the third season (if it ever receives the green light from HBO in future). Additionally, the next entry should focus on giving proper closure to Izzy’s shocking death.
Our Flag Means Death has become quite a popular show. However, the possibility of its third season depends a lot on how the sophomore entry performs on Max. The series has a ‘fresh’ score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 45 certified reviews). Indian viewers can stream all episodes of the show on Jio Cinema. Stay tuned for more updates.
