Heat 2 Moves Forward At WB, Adam Driver Is In Talks To Star
Nearly three decades have passed since Michael Mann’s Heat hit the theatres via Warner Bros. Now, the legendary helmer and the prominent film studio are teaming up once again to produce its sequel, Heat 2, with Adam Driver in talks to star. The on-screen Kylo Ren may play the young version of Robert De Niro’s Neil McCauley in the sequel. He recently starred in Mann’s Ferarri. Deadline first broke the news.
WB is looking for funding partners to commence the development of Heat 2. As of now, the studio has no partner. The duo of Regency Enterprises and Forward Pass financed the original 1995 film.
Mann and Meg Gardiner co-wrote the Heat 2 novel, which illuminates the events that occur before and after the film’s primary characters’ experiences. The story switches between two time periods: the first one follows Chris Shiherlis as he tries to escape from the LAPD and Detective Vincent Hanna after a botched bank robbery, while the second takes us back to 1988 in Chicago, where McCauley, Shiherlis, and the rest of their team successfully execute heists on the West Coast. At the same time, Hanna establishes himself as a rising figure in the Chicago PD due to his case with a group of home invaders. The aftermath of McCauley’s heists and Hanna’s efforts create unforeseen consequences in a parallel storyline.
The original Heat (1995) earned nearly $187.5 million against the production budget of $60 million, starred Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Val Kilmer, Diane Venora, Tom Sizemore, Amy Brenneman, Ashley Judd, Wes Studi, Jon Voight, and many more performers. De Niro and Kilmer portrayed McCauley and Shiherlis, respectively.
Warner Bros is yet to reveal the release window of Heat 2, starring Adam Driver. Stay tuned for more updates.
