“Heera” or diamond, they aren’t just visually spectacular; the utility of a diamond makes it equally precious. But the tale of “Heeramandi” doesn’t overcome this hurdle; with major flaws and immense pressure, the show doesn’t really deliver. Though it would be undermining Bhansali if we say it remained a coal, we and the fans expected so much more.
Practically speaking, the show is filled with inconsistencies, but there is one aspect of any show that the Indian audience despises: nepotism.
“Heeramandi” has been a visual feast through and through, but when it comes to other aspects, the show falls short. A massive group of fans has been disappointed by Sonakshi Sinha’s performance, and some have been uncomfortable with the inconsistencies and inaccuracies of the show. But the weakest aspect of all has definitely been Sharmin Segal.
In terms of the acting part of the show, no one shone as brightly as Manisha Koirala, but a performance like Segal’s pulls the show down. See, it would be a grave allegation if we label the show and narrate that Segal has been appointed based on nepotism. The process is far more complex than that, and whatever the reason might be, it isn’t simply working with her.
With the weaker performance, probably the weakest in the entire show, the audience was quick to label it as nepotism. Lately, it has been a prominent trend that the act of nepotism has angered the Indian audience, which is very evident as they started to criticize her harshly.
Although we predicted that this sort of reaction might happen, if it were loved by the fans, they would have shared some optimistic opinions. But as it’s going downhill, Sharmin Segal is now being crucified.
