Disney Plus is coming to India by integrating into its existing Indian partner, Hotstar. The latter is rebranded as Disney Plus Hotstar. The change, via the new logo, has been visible since a few weeks now.
There were great anticipation and build-up to the launch of Disney Plus in India, earlier in March. It was supposed to debut grandly with IPL. However, the unfortunate circumstances due to COVID-19 virus delayed the launch.
A new date did not come about previously, but now we have it. Disney Plus Hotstar will launch in India on April 3rd. Senior executives have made the decision. They feel it is the right time, even though the IPL is indefinitely postponed. There are no cinemas, the television shows are also running out of content, and with no sight of the epidemic coming to an end, the timing can’t be any better.
The plans are categorized into three brackets. The Premium, VIP and regular one are the groups. The price of the Premium has been increased from 999 rupees to 1499 rupees. Similarly, VIP has been upped to 399 rupees; it was Rs. 365 earlier. The regular or the basic plan comes with ads.
There is a significant increase in the digital viewing of the Indian population ever since the lockdown. Disney Plus Hotstar would be hoping to make a substantial impact in the coming days as the shutdown continues.
