‘Once’ is an Irish musical drama that came out in 2007 and was a huge success. The movie was written and directed by John Carney and starred actors like Glen Hansard, Markéta Irglová, Hugh Walsh, Gerard Hendrick, Alaistair Foley, Geoff Minogue and many others.
The movie tells the story of a boy who is a musician and falls in love with an immigrant girl. The girl helps him write, rehearse and record his songs. The songs tell the story of their own love and chemistry.
‘Once’ is a very short movie of one hour and twenty five minutes and is highly enjoyable. It is loaded with great performances and the music is superb. The music of the film is closed by lead actors Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová themselves with some scores by the band Interference. The cinematography is handled by Tim Fleming.
Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová used to perform together previously as the band Swell Season. The chemistry ia very much visible in the movie and gives more power to it. The song ‘Falling Slowly’ won the Academy Award for best original song in the 80th Academy Awards.
