‘We Need to Talk About Kevin’ is a psychological thriller that is adapted from a novel of the same name by Lionel Shriver. The movie is directed by well known filmmaker Lynne Ramsay and stars wonderful actors like Tilda Swinton, Ezra Miller and John C. Reilly.
The film tells the story of Eva, a mother who has to sacrifice her career and desires to give birth to her son Kevin. She finds it very difficult to bond with her son in the initial years. Kevin is a strange boy and says and does very weird things. When he is 15 years of age, he does something that is terribly unacceptable. The mother and the son share a very complicated relationship with each other and it is difficult to understand if Eva even loves her son or not.
The screenplay is written by Lynne Ramsay and Rory Stewart Kinnear. The cinematography is handled by Seamus McGarvey and Joe Bini has done a good job in the editing. The movie has some great music composed by Jonny Greenwood. ‘We Need To Talk About Kevin’ had its theatrical release in October 2011 after getting postponed for a long time due to production issues.
The movie was nominated for various dignified awards and went for a screening in some international film festivals. If you are a fan of dark and disturbing stories and if you like psychological dramas, you will definitely like this movie. Tilda Swinton and Ezra Miller have done a phenomenal job in the movie and you should watch this movie at least for the performances. And you will not regret it.
