Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s latest cinematic venture ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ starring Akshay Kumar was finally released in theatres on 3rd June after a spate of pandemic induced delays. Although the film has received mixed reviews from critics, it is being praised by audiences for certain filmmaking aspects like its direction and visual appeal, etc.
For those cinephiles who won’t be able to watch the film in theatres, there is no need to worry about it. Because ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ is slated to start streaming on the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform after completing its theatrical run.
Now let’s come to ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ OTT release date. The film is expected to arrive on Amazon Prime Video four weeks after its theatrical release. This would be consistent with the earlier trend of Yash Raj Films’ last theatrical release ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’, which came out in cinemas on 19th November 2021 and dropped on Prime Video four weeks later, on Friday, 17th December 2021.
So, taking into account the four-week theatrical-OTT window, ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ should start streaming on Amazon Prime Video from Friday, 1st July onwards.
Although official confirmation is still awaited regarding Samrat Prithviraj’s exact release date on Amazon Prime Video. Having said that, the film’s OTT release date might depend on its performance in theatres in the coming days. This implies that if the film picks up pace at the box-office, its OTT release could also be postponed.
‘Samrat Prithviraj’ is reportedly based on the Braj Bhasha epic poem ‘Prithviraj Raso’, a biopic of the legendary warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan. The film portrays the king’s early life, military achievements, marriage to the beautiful princess Sanyogita and his fierce battle with Muhammad of Ghor. Besides Akshay Kumar, the movie also features Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar as Sanyogita, Sonu Sood as Chand Bardai, Sanjay Dutt as Kaka Kanha, Ashutosh Rana as Jayachandra, and Manav Vij as the ruthless antagonist Muhammad Ghori.
