After about a year’s delay due to the pandemic situation, John Krasinski’s horror flick ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ got its theatrical release on May 28, 2021. It’s one of the first major Hollywood films to get an exclusive theatrical release during the current scenario. Like the parent film, ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ is giving a not so quiet performance at the box-office, giving the pandemic affected theatrical viewings a much-needed boost.
Around the film’s release, the intense anticipation and sincere praise from several celebrities are evident in Krasinski’s social media platform Twitter. A day before the film’s release, English filmmaker Edgar Wright (Director – ‘Shaun of the Dead’, ‘Baby Driver’) applauded Krasinski’s efforts to support theatres alongside his unforgettable experience for the parent film ‘A Quiet Place’.
Then, a day after ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ released in theatres, ‘Deadpool’ star Ryan Reynolds could not apparently keep quiet about how good the sequel is. And the man of few words that Krasinski is, replied by writing “Well… I’m speechless.”
However, perhaps the most influential praise for ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ came from none other than the horror maestro himself. The man who had helmed one of the best horror films of all time – ‘The Exorcist’. Yes, you guessed it right. We are talking about the Academy Award-winning filmmaker William Friedkin.
William Friedkin wrote the following words on Twitter on 29th May: “A QUIET PLACE 2 is a classic horror film. Cinema is back.” And an apparently overwhelmed John Krasinski promptly responded by saying “No words. Just no words. Thank you sir.” Going by the film’s box-office response, Cinemas are indeed back, at least in the US.
If you have seen William Friedkin’s 1973 film ‘The Exorcist’, you might already know that the cult film was the first horror movie to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Made on a budget of $12 million, it eventually grossed over $440 million at the box office.
Such a compliment for ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ and that too coming from a legendary filmmaker like William Friedkin is no mean feat, even for a proficient actor-director like John Krasinski. And this, we think, is perhaps the best reason to watch John Krasinski’s horror film ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ whenever it releases in theatres or in an OTT platform in India.
Interestingly, after the release of the first film ‘A Quite Place’ around three years back, world-famous ‘King of Horror’ author Stephen King took to Twitter and stated that “A QUIET PLACE is an extraordinary piece of work. Terrific acting, but the main thing is the SILENCE, and how it makes the camera’s eye open wide in a way few movies manage.”
So, with Stephen King having already praised the first film ‘A Quite Place’ and now with William Friedkin applauding ‘A Quiet Place Part II’, it’s a double treat for John Krasinski and another precious feather in the director’s cap.
John Krasinski’s ‘A Quite Place Part II’, starring Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Cillian Murphy and Krasinski himself, is currently running in theatres and is expected to stream on Paramount+ 45 days after its theatrical release.
