All movie buffs in India and fans of the eminent actor Aamir Khan must be eagerly waiting for his next film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ which is slated for a theatrical release on 11th August 2022. A couple of months back, it was being reported that R.S. Prasanna would helm the ‘Lagaan’ actor’s next film project.
At the same time, the grapevine was abuzz with the update that Aamir Khan’s next film with R.S. Prasanna will be a sports drama inspired by the 2018 Spanish movie ‘Campeones’. For the unversed, R.S. Prasanna had made his directorial debut with the Tamil rom-com movie ‘Kalyana Samayal Saadham’, which was later remade in Hindi as ‘Shubh Mangal Savdhan’.
And now, in another recent update as per the Mid-Day news publication portal, the ‘Campeones’ inspired movie will commence its first filming schedule in the month of September, that is, shortly after the release of Forrest Gump’s Indian adaptation ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. The filming for the ‘Campeones’ adaptation is currently scheduled to take place continuously over a period of two months starting from September.
As per the report, the ‘Campeones’ inspired film will mostly be shot outdoors, considering the movie’s premise and setting. Production-wise too, the September shooting schedule for the film makes sense as it will help avoid the rainy season in Mumbai and Aamir Khan would also be busy promoting ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ before that. However, an official confirmation regarding the same is yet to be confirmed by Aamir Khan and the concerned stakeholders.
In the Spanish film ‘Campeones’, which translates to ‘Champions’ in English, the story revolved around an arrogant and ill-tempered basketball coach, who is forced to train a basketball team comprising players with intellectual disabilities. Previously, Aamir Khan had worked on a somewhat similar subject in his only directorial film ‘Taare Zameen Par’. Although it wasn’t a sports movie per se but was based on a dyslexic child and how he overcomes his disorder with the help of a teacher.
