If you watched Tamil crime drama series Mathagam on Disney Plus Hotstar, and are waiting for Mathagam Part 2 to premiere on the platform, here’s some good news for you. Disney Plus Hotstar announced this afternoon that Mathagam Part 2 will arrive on the platform sooner rather than later – as soon as October 2023. We don’t have a confirmed date in October for the premiere of Mathagam Part 2, but should get it soon enough.
Disney Plus Hotstar’s latest Tamil original series ‘Mathagam’ released on the platform on 18th August, 2023. It received good reviews from both critics and audiences, with most people appreciating the plot, performances and direction of the series.
The crime drama series was watched not just by Tamil-speaking viewers, but also other-language viewers, because of Mathagam also streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi And Bengali. In short, ‘Mathagam’ proved to be a certified hit for Disney Plus Hotstar.
Unfortunately, Disney Plus Hotstar did with Mathagam what it has been doing with most of its original series this year – it broke up Mathagam into two parts, with only the first part available to watch on Disney Plus Hotstar on 18th August. As a result, only five episodes of Mathagam streamed on Disney Plus Hotstar upon premiere. The other half of the remaining five episodes will stream on Disney Plus Hotstar in October as announced by the platform this afternoon.
Viewers may recall that Disney Plus Hotstar did the same thing with ‘The Night Manager’, its other hit original series this year. Recently, it also released its new spy thriller ‘The Freelancer’ in two parts, with only Part 1 available to stream on the platform yet.
Mathagam is directed by Prasath Murugesan, and stars Atharvaa, K. Manikandan, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Nikhila Vimal, Dhivyadharshini, Dilnaz Irani, Ilavarasu, Vadivukkarasi, Aruvi Thirunavukkarasu, Munnar Ramesh, Sarath Ravi, Rishikanth, Murali Abbas and in pivotal roles.
It follows a relentless police officer who takes on a crime syndicate, led by an evil mastermind, who’s launched a planned siege on the city, setting off a gripping 30-hour cat-and-mouse game between the police and the criminals.
