Here’s Where ‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’ Scores Higher Than ‘Pathaan’

Here’s Where ‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’ Scores Higher Than ‘Pathaan’

As you all know, superstar Shah Rukh Khan is making his much-awaited lead-hero comeback with the upcoming spy actioner ‘Pathaan’, which is set to release in theatres on 25th January. And on the very next day, the relatively less buzzy period drama ‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’ will also be released.

Obviously, we can’t compare these two films owing to their different target audiences and filmmaking styles and genres. Footfall wise, ‘Pathaan’ is undoubtedly the fan-favourite among the two courtesy the star-studded cast and extravagant action sequences. For this article, we have pointed out those areas where ‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’ scores higher than ‘Pathaan’. Read on and tell us if you agree.

Director

‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’ has been directed by veteran filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, who has given us some really entertaining and well-made films such as ‘Damini’, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, ‘Pukar’, ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’, ‘Khakee’, and ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani’, amongst others.

On the other hand, ‘Pathaan’ has been directed by Siddharth Anand, whose directorial filmography comprises films like ‘Salaam Namaste’ ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’, ‘Bang Bang!’, and ‘War’.

Siddharth Anand is a young and talented director, but he cannot match the experience and directorial prowess of a filmmaker of Rajkumar Santoshi’s calibre. And that may also be reflected in both their forthcoming films: ‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’ and ‘Pathaan’.

Editing

You’ll be surprised to know that ‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’ has been edited by supremely talented and immensely experienced film editor Sreekar Prasad. For the unversed, he has lent his editing skills for some brilliant films like ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Yuva’, ‘Guru’, ‘Kaminey’, ‘Talvar’, and more recently ‘RRR and ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, to name a few,

And Pathaan’s editor is Aarif Sheikh, whose works as an editor include ‘Haider’, ‘Drishyam’, ‘War’, and ‘Samrat Prithviraj’, etc. No doubt about his talent but can’t be compared with a seasoned editor like Sreekar Prasad. Let’s see how crisp and well-edited ‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’ and ‘Pathaan’ turn out to be.

Dialogue Writer

The significance of a good dialogue writer became apparent in an otherwise well-executed big-ticket film like ‘Brahmastra’. Most fans opined that the film’s poorly written dialogues, or the lack of it, was its weakest point.

If there is one filmmaking area in which Rajkumar Santoshi surpasses himself than being a director, then it’s his writing skills. Did you know that he had himself written the witty dialogues for the cult comedy film ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, whose cult dialogues were its main strength? Besides that, he has also written the dialogues for some other dialogue-heavy films like ‘Pukar’ and ‘Khakee’.

On the other hand, in the case of ‘Pathaan’, the film’s dialogues have been written by Abbas Tyrewaala, whose works include ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ (his best yet), ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Bang Bang’, and ‘War’, etc. In case you’ve watched Rajkumar Santoshi’s aforementioned films, you’ll know why we score him higher as a dialogue writer. His writing skills should be aptly demonstrated in ‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’.

Music

Moreover, the music for Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh’ has been given by music maestro A.R. Rahman. So, that’s again a plus point for the film.
