David Cronenberg’s ‘Crimes Of The Future‘ has captured the attention of all and sundry with its gory images of body horror. The film released in theatres in the US on June 3. Audiences have since waxed eloquent on the unsettling nature of the film, along with its unique horror.
The official synopsis of Crimes Of The Future reads – “As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. With his partner Caprice (Léa Seydoux), Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen), celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Timlin (Kristen Stewart), an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, which is when a mysterious group is revealed… Their mission — to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.”
Considering the extreme form of body horror depicted in the film, it is a certainty that ‘Crimes Of The Future’ will not arrive in Indian theatres.
