Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor‘s horror comedy film ‘Bhoot Police’ has preponed its release on Disney+ Hotstar and will now come to the platform a week before its earlier release date of 17th September, 2021. ‘Bhoot Police’ is now scheduled to arrive three days from now on 10th September, 2021. But the real question is WHY??

‘Bhoot Police’ had its release date set quite a while ago so why change it now and announce a new date that’s just a couple of days to go! Well these digital platforms are quite smart to tweak things to work in their favour and that’s the reason this multi-starrer Bollywood film has seen this unexpected change.
September 17th is a busy day for Disney+ Hotstar as Nithin, Tamannaah and Nabha Natesh’s ‘Maestro’ along with Vijay Sethupati and Taapsee Pannu’s ‘Annabelle Sethupati’ are set to release on the platform on that day. And as its said three’s a crowd, it only seemed logical to avoid an overloaded weekend and lose out on a great opportunity.
Moreover, Disney+ Hotstar also just brightened up its dull 10th September weekend with rescheduling of ‘Bhoot Police’ for this Friday. While all other major platforms like Netflix (‘Tughlaq Durbaar’, Lucifer Season 6’) and Amazon Prime Video (‘Tuck Jagadish’) have some sensational titles up for this weekend, Disney+ Hotstar had nothing major before this latest announcement.
This change in date for ‘Booth Police’ thus has a dual benefit for the platform as it distributed the load to get more than just optimum from each film getting a direct to digital release via Disney+ Hotstar Multiplex feature on the platform. The other advantage gained is that it filled up a rather empty weekend with a film that has some big Bollywood names like Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Yami Gautam and Jacqueline Fernandez.
So while on one hand it lowered the competition on its own platform on one weekend, it raised it for other service providers on the other. Though it’s a win-win situation for Disney+ Hotstar, the one to lose a little might be ‘Bhoot Police’ itself. That’s because this rescheduling gives it just three more days, in place of ten, to promote the film as much as possible, thus disrupting its crucial final week promotional strategy.
