The eagerly anticipated dark comedy crime thriller movie ‘Monica, O My Darling’ is all set to start streaming on the Netflix OTT platform this Friday, that is, from 11th November. The curiosity quotient around the film is reasonably high. One major reason is the film’s terrific trailer, which struck the right chords amongst OTT audiences.
Another reason for the buzz around ‘Monica, O My Darling’ is that many fans felt that the film was giving them ‘Andhadhun’ vibes. Not just that, there is a good chance that ‘Monica, O My Darling’ might end up giving its viewers an equally spellbinding and brilliant climactic revelation and narrative style like Sriram Raghavan’s cult film ‘Andhadhun’. And there is a pretty good reason to support this thinking.
That’s because the script of ‘Monica, O My Darling’ has been penned by Yogesh Chandekar. Most of you might not be able to recognize this name instantly. Actually, Yogesh Chandekar has a direct and a very important connection with ‘Andhadhun’.
Because Yogesh Chandekar was also one of the writers of ‘Andhadhun’ (alongside Sriram Raghavan himself). So, it’s quite possible that the makers of ‘Monica, O My Darling’ might have brought in Yogesh Chandekar to deliver an equally fantastic story and, of course, a worthy climax.
Moreover, the comparisons of ‘Monica, O My Darling’ with Sriram Raghavan’s ‘Andhadhun’ also make sense owing to the fact that the former’s director Vasan Bala seems to have executed the film in a way which is delightfully reminiscent of Ayushmann Khurrana’s 2018 film. And both these films belong to the same sub-genre.
Directed by Vasan Bala, Netflix’s ‘Monica, O My Darling’ features Rajkummar Rao as a robotics expert who gets involved in a passionate affair but eventually ends up being blackmailed. Desperate to get out of the mess, he teams up with a bunch of unlikely allies and intends to execute the perfect murder.
