The Hidden Gem series is back to its original Sunday schedule again. This week, we are going to be looking at a funny, fantasy series from Brazil called ‘Nobody’s Looking’. The Portuguese language series, however, has been cancelled only after one season – which is unfortunate. While the eight-part supernatural series was slowly gaining traction, it was discontinued by Netflix due to its overall international reception.
So what is ‘Nobody’s Looking‘ all about? Well, this film is set in a universe where angels exist and they work behind the scenes, helping particular humans. The series starts off with us being introduced to an angel, Ulisses Angelus, who is the first angel born in almost 300 years. He is quickly integrated into the “Angel workforce”, with him quickly learning about the four rules that were established by the Chief – who we assume is God. These specific rules, if broken, have a unique damnation punishment attached to them.
However, Uli (short for Ulisses), starts to question a lot of the angels about their methods; questions varying from why are they always wearing ties or why are they not allowed to help humans who are not assigned to them? Uli soon finds that the rules are restricting and starts to help people regardless of the Chief’s orders. So if this show sounds interesting, give it a go – just remember, there are only eight episodes. And who knows, if the series gets enough traction, we can hopefully get this series “uncancelled”.
