Bollywood film ‘Hurdang’ is that rare Hindi film that is set in the backdrop of caste-based reservations and student politics. Caste-based reservations in the field of higher education is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed better in films. ‘Hurdang’ released in theatres on April 8, and did below average business, caught as it was in THE midst of the RRR blitz. The film now arrives on OTT soon on Netflix. Hurdang arrives on Netflix on July 10.
Hurdang stars Sunny Kaushal (The Forgotten Army, Official Chukyagiri) in the lead role of Daddu Thakur. The high-caste Daddu is an aspiring IAS officer, when the country is caught in the Mandal Commission reservations storm. Worried that his IAS aspirations will go for a toss if 50% admission seats are reserved for lower-caste aspirants, Daddu Thakur embarks on an agitation against the reservations.
Hurdang also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha, Vijay Varma and Shubhashish Jha in prominent roles. The film is directed by Nikhil Bhat and produced by T-Series, and Shailesh R Singh under his banner of Karma Media and Entertainment.
Nikhil Bhat has earlier directed movies such as Shoonya and Brij Mohan Amar Rahe!, and Voot Select web series, ‘The Gone Game’.
