Hit Netflix Series “D.P.” Sparks Major Debate All Around!

Korean shows on Netflix have gained a lot of popularity. Over the years, Netflix has found that Korean dramas, movies have their fan following and made a decision to invest in them. With Netflix coming into the picture, filmmakers have dared to create brand new series and films that normally wouldn’t have aired on Korean television. One of those many series is the Netflix original “D.P.” or “Deserter Pursuit”. D.P. has broken a lot of norms as it brought forward a story that most Koreans never expected. But, even though it wasn’t aired on TV, D.P. now is facing major issues from all around.

D.P. stars Jung Hae-in, Koo Kyo-hwan, and Kim Sung-kyun in lead roles. The story is based on a webtoon named “D.P.: Dog’s Day”. It is directed by Han Jun-hee and is a miniseries consisting of only 6 episodes. D.P. is about the story of deserters who leave the military without completing their scheduled 2 years and run away. The show puts light on the Korean military and the treatment of soldiers, once one is enlisted. As many know that serving in the Korean military is compulsory for every Korean man, this show was able to bring forward a dark side of the military.

Deserters aren’t uncommon, the series reflected on why one would run away. From physical tortures by senior officers to mental torture by bullying and pulling juniors down was the main part of the show. D.P. has received phenomenal ratings and reviews from everywhere around the world. But, sadly D.P. has sparked major debates in its native country of South Korea, where the Defence Minister had to step in and address the rumors.

The Defence Minister reassured people around the world that currently in the military, no such activities of bullying and torture are tolerated in the military. For that matter, military officials don’t take part in such activities that will hurt someone. He assured people that the show was the complete opposite of what happens in the military now. To this, the director has mentioned that there were no intentions of hurting anyone or sparking a debate, but things like this do happen in the military from time to time.

Many around the world lauded the creators for creating such a bold show that questions an integral part of the nation. If one thought, India is conservative, South Korea is no different. D.P. would have faced severe consequences if it was aired on National TV and definitely would have been pulled down. Such things have happened, shows being stopped, filming being stopped just because it would hurt the emotions of people. But releasing it on Netflix was a very smart idea and D.P. show the fame that it deserved.

D.P. is currently rated 8.6 in IMDb, which makes this a must-watch, and with trivial matters being discussed in the series, we are sure Indians specifically will love this. No one in India has currently dared to create something against the military and one knows what would happen if such a thing was released in the country. We don’t know if D.P. will face the brunt of the controversies or will continue to entertain people. So, don’t take the risk of missing out on such a great series and stream it now on Netflix.
