‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard‘, the sequel to the successful 2017 film, ‘Hitman’s Bodyguard’ starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel Jackson and Salma Hayek, is all set to have its theatrical release on 6th August in India. The second installment of the hit franchise will see Reynolds reprising his role as Bodyguard Michael Bryce and Samuel L. Jackson once again bringing hitman Darius Kincaid to life. The ensemble cast also features Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman in key roles, with Frank Grillo, Richard E Grant and Tom Hopper. The star-studded action comedy is directed by Patrick Hughes and written by Tom O’Connor and Brandon and Phillip Murphy.
In the sequel, three years after the events of the original film, bodyguard Michael Bryce continues his friendship with assassin Darius Kincaid as they embark on a new adventure to save Sonia (played by Hayek), Darius’ wife, from new threats. The trio then head to stop a madman (played by Banderas) from launching a terror attack on Europe.
The movie earlier slated to have a worldwide release on 20th August, saw a pre-poned release on the 16th of June, though India didn’t see the film releasing since theaters hadn’t reopened. While stating the reason for moving up the release dates, the makers described the movie as a perfect comedy-action-packed film for the summer. They also assured moviegoers that the sequel will deliver more comedy and thrill than the first movie and is ‘perfect’ for fans who are getting familiar with the franchise. Infact, the movie’s original date of release was 28th August 2020, but got pushed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Director Patrick Hughes was optimistic about a third installment, saying “Certainly the ending of this film lends itself to more suffering for Michael Bryce, so that can continue for eternity because I certainly love watching Ryan suffer. If there’s potential to do it further, then we certainly are going to pursue that.”
The film has been shot in some of Europe’s best locales including Trieste, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and United Kingdom. Although it met with mostly negative reviews upon its release abroad, it is yet to see how it fares in India.
