A few days back, Hollywood heaved a sigh of relief when it was announced that two writers had reached a deal with the studios and the five-month strike was finally put to an end. The writers’ strike had halted several major Hollywood productions including big-ticket films, eagerly anticipated television shows, and some immensely popular OTT projects. After the strikes are over now, here is how Hollywood is gearing up to resume their production schedules for some of the major big-ticket projects.
Let’s talk about the small screen / OTT projects first and it looks like they are now more focused on resuming their paused projects rather than developing new ones. Makes sense. For instance, HBO is expected to put in its efforts for shows like ‘The Last of Us Season-2’, ‘The White Lotus’, and ‘Euphoria’ next year instead of concentrating on new shows. Moreover, HBO would like to launch the highly anticipated second season of ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel ‘House of the Dragon’ in 2024. Season-2’s filming was concluded during the strikes.
Similarly, OTT giant Netflix will most likely focus more on the fifth and final season of the supernatural series ‘Stranger Things’ besides writing and filming works for ‘Wednesday Season-2’.
Furthermore, ABC’s popular titles including ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Law & Order’, and ‘Abbott Elementary’ may be prioritized for commencement of filming by the network but it would also depend on when the actors’ strike would officially end.
Now, as far as the theatrical releases are concerned, the pre-production and writing works for Paramount films such as the ‘Star Trek’ reboot and Tom Cancy’s ‘Rainbow Six’ adaptation are expected to be back on track at the earliest. Likewise, Warner Bros. too will be geared up for Matt Reeves to begin work on ‘The Batman’ sequel starring Robert Pattinson in the titular role. Then, there is James Gunn’s ‘Superman Legacy’, whose script work is over, but its production schedule depends on the actors’ strike.
Moreover, ‘Fast X: Part 2’ is supposed to get a new script draft and now that the writers’ strike is over, it should happen soon. Some more big-ticket films which are eagerly waiting to resume production include the Tom Cruise starrer ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two’, ‘Deadpool 3’ starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, and Clint Eastwood’s ‘Juror No.2’, amongst others.
