Homi Adajania is one director from the industry that has created some out of the box films and all of which have done their job in their own way. Director of movies like “Angrezi Medium”, “Finding Fanny ” , “Cocktail” and more, Homi Adajania some time ago opened up about his upcoming web series, which too is unique in its own way. Titled “Saas, Bahu Aur Cocaine”, the series finally has got on board one of its leading ladies.
The actress on board that we are talking about is none other Radhika Madan. The young actress is set to essay as one of the leading ladies in the web-series that will stream on Disney+ Hotstar. Adajania some time back in his interviews revealed about his upcoming project and when asked as to who he wants to cast, he mentioned that Radhika Madan was on his wishlist. Not only her, he also had a wish of getting Tabu or Radhika Apte on board as he has been a fan of their work for a long time now.
Radhika Madan and Homi Adajania have already worked once together in the movie “Angrezi Medium”. As revealed by an online publication, Homi Adajania created a character in a way that can fit Radhika Madan and as soon as she heard about it, she completely was on board to go ahead with the series. Ever since the “Angrezi Medium” days, Homi Adajania saw a lot of potential in her and hence wanted to see her once again in a role that can be challenging for many others.
The series’ story follows a family in Kutch who runs an embroidery business. The women in the family are not someone one presumes them to be, as they run a very dangerous business under all the façade. The women in the family successfully and secretively run a drug cartel, which also is one of the largest in entire South Asia, and they do it so well that even the men in the family have no idea as to what they are upto. The show seems dark but as Adajania mentioned in his interviews that the show is very bold and gritty but also filled with laughter.
Adding comedy to something that can easily pass off as dark crime thriller will definitely be the best part of the series. Also, keeping in mind that the story will be portraying women who normally are just assigned to housework are actually bigtime druglords. The contrast will be a brilliant one to witness as that will be something that we believe can build on the comedic factor of the show.
Also, not to mention that it’s not everyday one gets to see women ruling the drug cartels. This was the main idea of Adajania’s as he wanted to see what he could do with it and how he could portray it so that not only it becomes an interesting plot but also something that can engage whoever watches the series.
While Radhika Madan is one of the first actors ready for the project, the search for the other leads is underway. The series will be produced by Maddock Films’s Dinesh Vijan, under his brand new banner for digital content called “Outsider Films”. The team at the moment is not going ahead with any kind of shooting as they will wait for Covid situations to get better and for the restrictions and protocols to settle in.
