While we wait for 83, Ranveer Singh has signed his next film with director Shankar Shanmugham. The duo will be teaming up for a pan-India feature that will be an official adaptation of Shankar’s cult blockbuster Tamil film ‘Anniyan’.
The announcement was made public by Pen Studios, the production company behind this latest film and it said, “We are supercharged and ecstatic as we bring two forces of Indian cinema for the official adaptation of a cult blockbuster, Anniyan!

‘Anniyan‘ is a Tamil psychological action thriller film that came out in 2005. The story of the film revolves around Ramanujam (Vikram), who suffers from multiple personality disorder. While he works as a lawyer by day, he becomes a vigilante at night. He uses tips from the ‘Garuda Purana’ as his tools to expose various antisocial elements.
Shankar is a well known and respected name of the Indian film industry whose works like Indian (1996) and Jeans (1998) went on to be submitted by India for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. ‘Anniyan’ adaptation will mark Shankar’s second Hindi film after Anil Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee starrer ‘Nayak’ (2001), that was the remake of his own successful Tamil film ‘Madhulvan’ (1999).
The pan-India version of the film that is yet to be titled will be produced by Dr. Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios in association with God Bless Entertainment. The film is supposed to go on floors in mid-2022.
