HOT NEWS! This Superhit 2018 Tamil Film Gets A Bollywood Remake

The 2018 Kollywood romantic blockbuster ‘96‘ starring Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha is now getting a Bollywood remake. Producer Ajay Kapoor (of ‘Romeo Akbar Walter’ and ‘Attack’ fame) has officially bagged the rights for the project. However, the announcement regarding the director and cast is still to be made. The original Tamil romantic drama was not only critically acclaimed, but also one of the biggest grossers of that year. The film revolves around two high school sweethearts from the batch of 1996 who meet at a reunion, 22 years after they parted. ’96’ is much remembered as a love story so ordinary, yet so heart-warmingly special. The film also swept away many Filmfare Awards that year, including Best Film, Best Actor and Best Actress.

Speaking about the project, producer Ajay Kapoor said, “96 was a heartwarming, light-hearted romantic tale that received humongous love from the audience. The story breaks the barriers beyond the bounds of language and region, which prompted me to remake the film in Hindi for the national audience. I am actively working on developing the right script for the narrative alongwith the director and right kind of starcast. Once we finalize everything, I would soon like to make the official announcement of the cast and crew.”

Currently having finished shooting for the upcoming film ‘Attack’, starring John Abraham in the lead, Kapoor recently announced a big-budget film based on the Afghanistan rescue mission project, titled ‘Garud’, though details of the director and cast members are yet to be finalised. With the remake of ’96’ as well, the producer’s lineup is shaping up to be an impressive one. Incidentally, ’96’ was remade in Kannada as ’99’ featuring actors Ganesh and Bhavana, as well as in Telugu as ‘Jaanu’ starring Sharwanand and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the lead.
