In testament to the growing clout of regional content in the OTT landscape, Star Network, the parent body of Disney Plus Hotstar, has appointed a separate head of content for its Tamil, Malayalam and Marathi content. Krishnan Kutty will be EVP and Head for Tamil, Malayalam, and Marathi businesses, not just for OTT, but also for the TV medium. Krishnan Kutty will be based in Chennai.
Krishnan Kutty was earlier the business head of Star’s Tamil TV channel, Star Vijay. He managed 300 employees at Star Vijay, while handling sales & marketing and programming for the channel. He was also responsible for popularising Disney plus Hotstar in the Tamil market by driving original content creation and acquisition.
Before this, Krishnan Kutty was the business head for the English cluster at Star TV. He handled the content, revenue and marketing for the entertainment and movies section of 9 different channels.
Krishnan Kutty has been a part of Star India since 16 years, and knows the inside out of the entertainment business like the back of his hand.
