The makers have just dropped the trailer of their magnum opus period drama ‘The Empire‘ and it certainly looks larger than life! Created by Nikkhil Advani, under his production banner, Emmay Entertainment, the series stars Kunal Kapoor, Dino Morea, Shabana Azmi, TV actress Dhrashti Dhami, Rahul Dev, Aditya Seal (of Indoo ki Jawani fame) and Sahher Bambba (of Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas fame) in lead roles. It is helmed by Mitakshara Kumar, who is not new to epic dramas, having previously worked as associate director with Sanjay Leela Bhansali on ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Padmaavat’.
The series, headlined by Kunal, who plays the Moghul King – Babar, portays the rise of the most significant and expansive empires in Indian History. The trailer is grand and fascinating in every sense of the word, showing the entry of the Emperor into India, a story not many know of. The series is based on Alex Rutherford’s bestselling novel ‘Empire of the Moghuls’ and is expected to be a multi season show, since there are totally 6 volumes of the book. The first season is based on the first book, ‘Raiders of the North’ and focuses on the story of a young Babur, who is forced to vacate Samarkand and give his sister (played by Dhami) to the new ruler, Shaibani Khan (played by Morea). Babur then decides to go across to the other side of the Sindhu river to establish a kingdom, thereby entering India and changing our fate.
The trailer was released earlier this morning by Hotstar, with the caption, “The story of a king battling against enemies, fate, family, death and even himself, in search of his kingdom. Hotstar Specials The Empire. All episodes streaming from August 27th. Trailer out now.

Filmed in India and Uzbekistan, this may be Disney Hotstar’s highest budgeted series yet and the cast certainly does justice to the scale. The trailer features great visuals, magnificent sets and locations, impressive battle sequences and elaborate costumes. Talking about his character, actor Kunal had earlier said, “We have heard many stories about Babur and the Moghuls, but very little about who they were, where they came from and how they came into India. In this fictional take, this is a character with a lot of complexities, and that is what intrigued me as an actor. The trailer is just a small glimpse into the world of ‘The Empire’”.
The series will stream from 27th August on Disney Hotstar and will be available in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali.
