Disney Plus Hotstar has just dropped the first full-fledged trailer for its upcoming series ‘Showtime’. The Dharmatic production premieres on the platform on 8th March, 2024.
The 2-minute long trailer for ‘Showtime’ goes full ballast at the explosive insider vs outsider debate raging in Bollywood ever since the fiery Kangana Ranaut labeled Karan Johar the flag bearer of nepotism. That ‘Showtime’ comes from Karan Johar’s production company, Dharmatic, is an irony like none other.
Emraan Hashmi plays the scion of an established filmy family in Bollywood, with Naseeruddin Shah as its patriarch. Along comes an upstart outsider, played by Mahima Makwana, who threatens to upset the cosy apple-cart. Rajeev Khandelwal plays the Bollywood star, the blue-eyed boy of Emraan Hashmi’s production company — until he isn’t any more.
The ‘Showtime’ trailer depicts stereotypical Bollywood shenanigans in their full sordid glory. Vijay Raaz, Shriya Saran and Mouni Roy join in the high-jinks. One wonders if Mahima Makwana’s character is modeled on Kangana Ranaut while Emraan Hashmi is the reel equivalent of Karan Johar. The series will be a blast if that is the case. It will be fun to watch who wins in the end.
Showtime is created by Sumit Roy, directed by Mihir Desai and Archit Kumar and written by Sumit Roy, Lara Chandni and Mithun Gangopadhyay. Anand Bhaskar has composed the music. Somen Mishra and Apoorva Mehta have produced for Karan Johar’s Dharmatic.
The star-studded cast of Showtime includes Emraan Hashmi, Mahima Makwana, Mouni Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Shriya Saran, Vijay Raaz, Naseeruddin Shah, Lilette Dubey, Vishal Vashishtha, Neeraj Madhav, Gurpreet Saini, Denzil Smith, among others.
