House Of The Dragon Episode 2: The Chaos Begins

By Binged Bureau - Aug 29, 2022 @ 05:08 pm
House Of The Dragon Episode 2: The Chaos Begins

House of the Dragon Episode 2 is streaming now on Disney+ Hotstar.

We can all admit that Episode 2 has laid the foundation for a large-scale civil war. Yes, we are talking about the war that crippled House Targaryen. Where should we start? So much is happening in King’s Landing and the places that come under the reign of King Viserys. With Rhaenyra in the frame, things have certainly become spicier than before in King’s Landing.

Spoiler Warning

Six months have passed since the tragic death of Queen Aemma. Everything in King’s Landing and around it is changing slowly. Our very own troublemaker, Daemon, has taken control of the Dragonstone. Lord Corlys Velaryon is worried about this kingdom as Craghas Drahar/The Crabfeeder is menacing the Stepstones, feeding Westerosi sailors to the crabs. On the other hand, the Small Council forces King Viserys to think about remarrying and strengthening his bloodline. And the most comely woman in King’s Landing, Lady Alicent Hightower, continues to comfort the King as per her father’s request.

Lord Velaryon offers a proposal and asks Viserys to marry his daughter, Laena. However, this scenario disturbs the King as the Velaryon princess is a minor. Things begin to complicate after Daemon steals a dragon egg and invites Viserys to his “so-called” wedding. But Ser Otto Hightower asks permission to go to Dragonstone to confront Daemon and take back the egg himself.

Upon reaching Dragonstone, Ser Otto confronts Daemon and orders him to give back the egg. Soon, Daemon’s dragon, Caraxes, appears in front of The Hand’s soldiers and Ser Criston Cole. Out of nowhere, Rhaenyra also appears with her dragon Syrax to put an end to possible bloodshed. She confronts Daemon and asks him to kill her as Viserys chose her as his heir. Daemon holds back himself and returns the egg to Rhaenyra.

Viserys gets angry after learning what happened at Dragonstone. He tries to remind Rhaenyra that she is his only heir. Both father and daughter have a heart-to-heart conversation in which the princess realises that the King has to remarry to produce a male heir.

King Viserys announces that he wants to marry Alicent, daughter of Ser Otto Hightower. This announcement upsets Lord Velaryon and Rhaenyra. In the end, we see Lord Velaryon establishing an alliance with Daemon.

Positives

There are a lot of positives in the latest episode of HBO’s House of the Dragon series. First, let’s talk about the electrifying altercation between Daemon and Rhaenyra. This moment was the best part of Episode 2. Princess Rhaenyra kind of reminded us of Daenerys. The way she made her grand entrance with Syrax and confronted Daemon while displaying no sign of fear was a sight to behold. This scene also proves that Rhaenyra will not sit quietly. She will do whatever it takes to show her worth to people. After all, she is a true Targaryen. Milly Alcock is an outstanding acting talent!

We did not see much of Matt Smith’s Daemon in Episode 2. But his alliance with Lord Velaryon makes a strong statement. The union of these two gentlemen will weaken Viserys’ reign for sure. The latest episode perfectly lays the foundation of the civil war that shattered House Targaryen.

Visuals, as usual, looked mesmerising. And we should not dare criticise Ramin Djawadi’s score. It is a sin!

Negatives

The only thing disturbing about Episode 2 is Lord Velaryon’s proposal. Yes, it’s a part of the storyline. But still, the meeting between Viserys and princess Laena was just uncomfortable to watch. The world in which we are living today makes that scene even more disturbing.

All episodes of HBO’s House of the Dragon are available on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
