Aemond Targaryen was indeed one of the most chilling characters in HBO’s House of the Dragon Season 1. Actor Ewan Mitchell flawlessly portrayed the character’s violent and dark persona on the screen. He is not a monster, but he is surely a loyal and cunning man who is not afraid to commit violent acts when needed. And we will see more of Aemond’s complex side in Season 2. In a recent interview with Collider, Mitchell teased that Westeros would be more violent in the sophomore entry compared to the first season.
This is what Ewan Mitchell said in his talk with Collider:
“I mean, you guys know… when a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin. One side is greatness, and the other side is madness. We’ve got a whole family of these guys. So this is possibly the craziest you will ever see Westeros.”
Episode 10, “The Black Queen”, from House of the Dragon Season 1, sets a perfect stage for the conflict between Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke). In that episode, Aemond accidentally becomes the reason for Luke’s demise. The final shot shows Rhaenyra’s grief slowly turning into anger, indicating that she plans to take vengeance for her son’s death.
Season 1 featured plenty of violence and a full-length battle. So, we should expect the makers to raise the stakes and add more violent scenes in the second season. The conflict between Alicent and Rhaenyra will definitely get the most screen time. The latest Season 2 teaser clip shows that viewers will get more action, violence, battles, and dragons in the forthcoming instalment compared to the debut season.
HBO is yet to reveal the exact release date of House of the Dragon Season 2. It is expected to come out in the summer of 2024. Indian viewers can watch the first season on Jio Cinema. Stay tuned for more updates.
