Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has received a major casting update. According to Deadline, DC Studios plans to test actresses for the lead role in the film. House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock, CODA’s Emilia Jones, and The Winchesters’ Meg Donnelly are reportedly in the mix.
The upcoming Supergirl movie will be the second project based on the lives of Kryptonians after Superman: Legacy. The former is yet to receive a release window. Unlike Kal-El, aka Clark Kent, Kara Zor-El was raised on Krypton and witnessed the planet’s destruction before arriving on Earth. James Gunn has promised that ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ will be different from previous Supergirl adaptations.
We do not know if Supergirl will appear in Superman: Legacy. Though, it will be perfect for the character to make an appearance in James Gunn’s next directional feature. This approach will aid the audience in establishing an emotional connection with Kara in the early stages of the DCU before witnessing her properly in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. It is possible that one of the above-mentioned actresses may get the role before March.
It will be interesting to see how DCU’s Kara Zor-El will be different from Arrowverse’s Melissa Benoist and DCEU’s Sasha Calle.
Deadline has also disclosed that James Gunn will also be part of the screen test process. In addition, DC Studios is looking for a director for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Plot details about the upcoming DCU film are scarce. Stay tuned for more updates.
