As many of you may know by now, Prithviraj’s next film, ‘Kuruthi‘ is going to premiere on the streaming platform, Amazon Prime Video, next week. This will be the actor’s second direct-to-OTT released feature film and as the trailer suggests, it will be quite different from his previously released ‘Cold Case’, which is also streaming on Amazon Prime Video. While both films are from the thriller genre and feature Prithviraj as the film’s lead protagonist, that seems to be where the similarities between both movies end. While we do not know much about the upcoming movie, here’s how we think that ‘Kuruthi’ will defer from ‘Cold Case’:
Lead Characters
‘Cold Case‘ as the name suggests is an investigating thriller, with some elements of supernatural horror. Prithviraj plays a cop who is investigating a murder that happened many years ago. In this movie, Prithviraj’s character is out for revenge and with an ominous title such as ‘Kuruthi’, which means ritualistic sacrifice, we could be seeing Prithviraj in a role unlike never witnessed before.
Cast
One look at ‘Kuruthi’s’ cast is enough to make a huge difference. While ‘Cold Case’ was a decent one time watch, the movie was hampered by its rough acting (not counting Prithviraj). And while the investigative thriller did have a few instances of decent acting, we are pretty sure that it will not come to the level of the actors who have been assembled for the upcoming ‘Kuruthi’. ‘Kuruthi’ has a brilliant cast including Prithviraj, Murali Gopy, Roshan Mathew, Shine Tom Chacko, Srindaa and Mamukkoya.
Music
Again, there is not much competition. While ‘Cold Case’ had a couple of decent song sequences – none of them were exactly memorable. However, the theme song for this upcoming film, which is heavily used in the trailer, sets the mood for the film quite well and it stands out quite well, especially compared to ‘Cold Case’. While the composers for both films aren’t that well known, the soundtrack of one film has already come out well ahead.
Themes
Cold Case’ as mentioned earlier is an investigating thriller. While the film did have some supernatural, horror sequences included, the movie manages to keep both themes separate to give us a different look at a film of this genre. As for the film, ‘Kuruthi’, which means ritualistic sacrifice, we could be looking at an old fashioned revenge thriller. Especially after the chilling dialogue, we saw Prithviraj deliver at the end of the trailer.
