Western influence is not always something to be slandered about. Not when it has impacted almost all circles of life today, and more importantly, because influence like this is a two-way street. We have been both: the influencers, and the influenced. Which brings things back in perspective: Ananya Pandey’s latest chique-flick ‘Call Me Bae’.
Following the lead of the hit American show ‘Two Broke Girls’, the show starring Pandey as a billionaire-heiress-turned-hustler debuted to a mixed bag of reviews, earlier today. The eight-episode season has been earmarked a guilty pleasure by many, with Pandey’s performance being hailed as a breath of fresh air for its light-weighted comedic nuances.
On the ever-thriving other hand, numerous viewers also pointed out that the show is yet another exaggerated-wannabe-cutesy shot at making overtly rich characters, relatable.
However, at the end of the day, it remains a matter of fact that not all content created for widespread consumption must be judged based on its seriousness, or lack thereof. Which is to say, stories like these offer a well-needed respite from hectic everyday lives by providing viewers with media, solely for the purpose of enjoying it in all its un-seriousness.
