The first look of Heeramandi is now out. Or, should we say the first look of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is out?
Let’s talk about a phenomenon that is going unnoticed by a lot of people. The plans are huge and it is reflected quite well in the way Netflix is promoting the show.
Let’s begin with the beginning. The platform announced the show at the TUDUM India Festival of 2021. It is important as the maximum exposure can be gotten from there itself.
When was the first poster unveiled? Last year on the 17th of February when Netflix’s CEO Ted Sarandos was on a visit to India. This is a big deal as the CEOs don’t usually unveil any first look…not any. But in the case of Heeramandi, they did.
Now comes the first big update in the form of a first look. What’s special today? Today is the “Netflix Next” event when we will be getting the first looks at all the canonical titles of Netflix from 2024…including Squid Game, Three Body Problem, and more.
Since the big international event starts at 7:30 PM IST, unveiling the Heeramandi look at that time would be too late for the Indian subcontinent. So, they announced it before the big event … although we wish they had added Heeramandi to the slate of titles.
Now, let’s come to the big question involving the name. The show is titled “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar”.
Well, The Diamond Bazaar certainly doesn’t translate the magnanimity that Heeramandi carries within itself. Also, adding a subtitle to Heeramandi is not meant for Indian masses.
So whom does it target?
The international audience obviously. The same thing happened when La Case De Papel which translates into “The Paper House” was dubbed into Money Heist for non Spanish regions.
Similarly, “The Diamond Bazaar” is meant for the International audience. The plans are big and the potential is immense. Everything depends on the content and reception of the show. Let’s see what happens.
