How OTT Has Become A Safe Place For The Artists

If you think about the type of content we were getting from Bollywood recently, then we really don’t have much to talk about. Barring a handful of movies, there were nothing short of monotonous content being served to us by the makers. Either the movies were getting remade from South or any other countries, or we were getting the same old slapstick masala entertainers. And why was this? Due to the fact that no one wanted to take risks, be it producer or actor.

The same culture was there in the music industry as well. Gone are the days when we used to get 5-6 original songs from each and every movie. In today’s time, and even the music directors, singers have said the fact that producers want something catchy and hence they indulge into remakes of popular old songs. This affected the budding music artists as they didn’t got the opportunity to present their works to the directors or producers. As well as the industry too is suffering from “remaking syndrome”.

Enter 2020, a huge change arrived for the entertainment industry with the shutdown of theatres. And in the absence of theatres, OTT took the charge to entertain people and churned out quality content. We witnessed so many great performances by budding actors. Lesser known actors too, got the exposure and fame that got overlooked in theatres. The best examples of this can be of Pratik Gandhi who starred in two Hindi movies prior to his stint in Scam 1992. But he got astronomical success with and due to OTT.

The thing is that, the audience expects innovative content from the OTT platforms and for that they have become more accepting towards the actors and stories. This has tempted several makers to come up with creative stories to entertain the audience.

Many television actors have stated the fact that they would like to work in the OTT space as it offers a whole new experience to their craft. Since people are all in for new and fresh content/faces, it has become relatively easier for all the budding artists (be it musicians, actors, writers, directors, you name it!) to showcase their talents on a nationwide platform.

Seeing the response that the streaming platforms have received over the past year, it certainly has boosted the morale of all the performers whether young, old, veterans. And hence, OTTs have become a safe hub for the artists.
