Kareena Kapoor Khan is coming up with her new mystery-thriller film on 13th September, The Buckingham Murders. It revolves around the life of a detective who recently lost her child and now investigates the case of a missing child. The film, as the name suggests, takes place in London and has many British characters in it. Due to its setting, the film mostly uses English dialogues and Hindi is used when the characters conversing are all Indian. This unique language spices up the film’s content, raising its potential.
The film will be released originally in English language and in Hindi dubbed in India. Though the original language is labelled as English, still a portion of the dialogues are in Hindi. The use of languages depends on the situation and the characters. The film has Hindi dialogues around the people of Indian origin. In the trailer this is shown happening when Kareena is interrogating the Indian people of the area. But as most of the characters in the film are British, the film has to rely on English dialogues mostly. The clever part though, was not subduing to any language and keeping both of them as per requirement. We see in many films, the Indians in a foreign environment are made to speak in Hindi. Or an Indian film set in a foreign place ignores the people other than the Indian diaspora in order to use Hindi in maximum amount.
This film challenges this notion and hence becomes more appealing to watch. The use of both the languages makes the movie more realistic. The use of both languages accurately makes them use British characters in the movie as well making the movie even more realistic.
The film’s way of using both languages or more appropriately Hinglish raises the potential of the film. Hinglish can be currently called as the lingua franca of India. And specially this way of conversation where English predominantly is used with Hindi is something that can be observed in the GenZ. Hence the use of such a language makes the film more appealing for the GenZ audience of India. This can prove to be very effective as more than half of the population of India is GenZ right now and if they like the film, it can be highly profitable for it.
Hence the use of Hindi along with the predominant English makes The Buckingham Murder better content wise. Also, it gives it an edge over the GenZ audience creating new possibilities for the film in the box office.
