Hridayam & A Thursday on IMDb Top 250 List. Which Film Ranks Higher?

Diehard cinephiles might already be in the know that the globally popular entertainment database website IMDb houses a list of the top 250 Indian movies of all time which is based on its user ratings. And for the year 2022, two Indian films have recently made their way to the coveted IMDb list. These are Yami Gautam starrer thriller ‘A Thursday’ and the Malayalam drama film ‘Hridayam’, both titles currently streaming on the Disney+ Hotstar OTT platform.

While ‘A Thursday’ directly started streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from 17th February, ‘Hridayam’ released on the same streaming service a day later, that is, on 18th February 2022.

An interesting thing about ‘Hridayam’ appearing on IMDb’s top-rated Indian movies list is that the movie was released in theatres precisely a month earlier on 21st January. However, it made it to the IMDb top-rated Indian movies list apparently after it got its release on Disney+ Hotstar. The reason is most likely related to more people watching the film on OTT and subsequently rating it on IMDb as compared to its theatrical release.

And in case you are wondering which film amongst ‘Hridayam’ and ‘A Thursday’ ranks higher on the IMDb list, let us tell you that it’s ‘Hridayam’ which has outranked ‘A Thursday’ and that too by a decent margin. While ‘Hridayam’ is currently ranked 192 with an 8.6/10 user rating, ‘A Thursday’ is behind at 249th place on the IMDb list with a still-impressive 8.2 rating. Besides ‘A Thursday’ and ‘Hridayam’, no other Indian movie from the year 2022 holds a place on the IMDb top 250 Indian movies list until now.
