The Malayalam coming of age of story, Hridayam, has been a major theatrical success so far. In fact, it is the first successful Malayalam feature film of the year. The movie was created by a new generation of filmmakers and is a huge achievement for the Malayalam film industry. And now, the Malayalam feature has almost reached its box office milestone of Rs. 50 crores – possibly, just before its OTT release.
This movie has gone through a lot in the last couple of years, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. The film was in mid-shoot, back in March 2020, before the global pandemic stopped production altogether. Eventually, after the Covid restrictions eased, Vineeth Sreenivasan managed to get the crew back together to finish the shooting and post-production before the second wave of the pandemic shut down theatres in Kerala again.
For a film of this budget and filled with a lesser-known cast and crew, we wouldn’t have been surprised if this movie made its way to an OTT platform. However, the movie producer wanted the film to only release in theatres and here we are. After the song, Darshana, dropped on multiple social media platforms, back in October, the film announced its January 2022 release date.
The movie is still running strong particularly in Kerala theatres as well as in the Middle East. With the film now closing in on the Rs. 50 crores milestone (as mentioned earlier), we wouldn’t be surprised if the aforementioned OTT release gets pushed by another month. No streaming platform has managed to land the streaming rights of the film yet, so the filmmakers might be waiting for a better deal to come along.
Hridayam is still running in theatres. To know more about the film, check out the movie trailer below:
