Hrithik Roshan’s hotly anticipated movie ‘Fighter’ has faced a major setback barely a few days before its release in theatres. The aerial action drama film has officially been banned in Gulf countries like Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, among others. United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the only Middle Eastern country where ‘Fighter’ has passed the censor boards and got the much-needed clearance for release.
Incidentally, the film has also been banned in Pakistan. The main reason for Fighter not getting the green signal from censor boards in the above-mentioned countries is because the movie has purportedly shown Muslims at large, and Pakistan in particular, in a bad light. Fighter premieres worldwide on 25th January, 2024, except in the above-mentioned countries.
Viacom 18 Studios’ ‘Fighter’ features Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Akshay Oberoi and Karan Singh Grover playing elite officers of the Indian Air Force. The film portrays a cinematic version of the Pulwama attack, followed by intense retaliatory attacks by Indian armed forces, especially the IAF. Fighter is directed by Siddharth Anand.
Indian films have regularly faced bans in the Middle East, for various reasons. Last year too, a clutch of Indian films had been banned in the Gulf, including Mammootty’s Kathal. Kathal had faced a ban due to its depiction of homosexuality.
