For the first time ever, streaming services are set to outspend commercial broadcasters on content in 2025. According to a new report from Ampere Analysis, global content spending will reach $248 billion this year. Interestingly, streamers share $95 billion—39% of the total.
This shift shows a new era in entertainment. While traditional broadcasters have long dominated content investment, they’re now pulling back, especially in the U.S., where ad revenue struggles and declining linear viewership have forced a more cautious approach. Meanwhile, streaming platforms continue to pour money into fresh content.
Events like the U.S. election, the Summer Olympics, and the resolution of Hollywood strikes helped boost spending. But as we move into 2025, the focus is shifting. Streaming services are increasing their content budgets by 6%, and it will make them the biggest players in the industry for the first time ever.
The landscape is changing rapidly. As audiences move toward on-demand content, traditional TV’s influence is slowing fading away. The most important thing from this whole data is the fact that OTT is not a thing of the future anymore. It is very much a part of the present and they are extremely powerful an entity.
