On the occasion of 75 years of independence, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Netflix India have joined hands to launch ‘Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan’ to honor unique real-life stories of extraordinary individuals through a series of inspiring short videos.
‘Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan’ will feature inspirational stories of seven incredible Indian women and will depict their journey and extraordinary achievements. These series of short videos will define what freedom meant to these women.
These short videos are narrated by acclaimed veteran actress Neena Gupta and capture the remarkable journey of these individuals and how they broke the glass ceiling in their respective fields, ranging from science to sports.
Here’s who these seven fabulous women are and what freedom means to them:
Harshini Kanhekar: India’s first woman firefighter says, “If something hasn’t been attempted, it doesn’t mean you cannot do it. To me, Azada means facing a raging fire.” She has now joined the list of women being recognized and honored under the ‘Bharat Ki Lakshmi’ campaign by the Prime Minister.
Basanti Devi: An environmentalist and protector of the Kosi river ecosystem, she is a Padma Awardee and is credited for raising awareness campaigns and saving the Kosi river from drying up. She started the ‘Jal, Jungle, Jameen’ movement at a young age of 17-18 years and has also been awarded Nari Shakti Puraskar in 2016. She said, “From water comes life, and water is life. I flow free like a river, and will continue to protect and serve water, that’s Azadi to me.”
Poonam Nautiyal: She walked miles across the Bageshwar district in Uttarakhand to vaccinate thousands of people living in remote areas. She says, “If women hold the power to create life, women also hold the power to save lives. If I have to put my life at stake to save other lives, I wouldn’t think twice.”
Anshu Jamsenpa: A mountaineer and first woman in the world to scale the summit of Mount Everest twice in a season, and the fastest double summitter to do so within 5 days. She says, “I am a force of nature, I can scale great heights, and my journey has just begun. Azadi means to make your way up in the world.”
Aarohi Pandit: She is the world’s youngest person and first woman pilot to cross the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean solo in a light-sport aircraft. “When you dream something out of the box, it’s very important to push the norms. Azadi is to be one with the wind,” she said.
Tanvi Jagadish: India’s first competitive woman stand-up paddleboarder says, “You have the right to dream, and the right to achieve your dream. Just like the waves, be patient, be consistent, and never look back. To me, Azadi is to take a bit of the ocean wherever I go.”
Teddy Thomas: Known as the “Missile Woman of India” she is the first-ever woman scientist to head a missile project in India. According to her, “Being a scientist, every moment is a learning curve. We need to face challenges, and we need to learn. I always say that science has no gender, and Azadi is when we take our nation to new horizons.”
‘Azadi Ki Amrit Kahaniyan’, a series of inspiring short videos launched by Miniatry of Information and Broadcasting in collaboration with Netflix India is now available on Ministry’s social media platforms and Doordarshan.
