New York City’s own Ice Spice is all set to make her acting debut in Spike Lee’s High and Low. Apart from the prominent rapper, the highly anticipated crime thriller stars Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, and Ilfenesh Hadera.
Washington and Lee have collaborated on four movies: Mo’ Better Blues (1990), Malcolm X (1992), He Got Game (1998), and Inside Man (2006). High and Low marks their fifth collaboration after a long wait of 18 years.
Rapper Ice Spice will have a cameo appearance in the upcoming Spike Lee film, which is an English language remake of the classic 1963 Japanese film of the same name, which itself took inspiration from Evan Hunter’s 1959 novel, King’s Ransom.
Ice Spice received four Grammy nominations at this year’s ceremony, including best new artist. Her song, “Barbie World” with Nicki Minaj, was also among one of Barbie’s official soundtracks.
A24 and Apple Original Films are backing Lee’s High and Low. The former production house will release the film in theatres before it goes to the Apple TV+ streaming platform. The movie was announced in February this year, and has a script written by Lee and Alan Fox. Jason Michael Berman from Mandalay Pictures and Todd Black from Escape Artists have co-produced the film. Stay tuned for more updates.
