Some films have an interesting destiny. Ayushmann Khurrana‘s Anek is one of them. Binged reported that the film is getting its due recognition after releasing on Netflix.
A noteworthy thing is, that Netflix didn’t promote it the way they promote their other films like Bhool Bhulaiya 2, RRR or Gangubai Kathiawadi. With absolutely zero buzz and promotions, Anek garnered good views solely because of word of mouth.
As you may see in the list, Anek was globally the second-highest watched non-English movie last week. It is only behind the Norwegian film Blast which was released last week itself.
The most surprising fact however is the fact that Anek has significantly higher views than Bhool Bhulaiya 2. If you remember then Kartik Aryan’s Bhool Bhulaiya 2 was the most-watched non-English film globally last week. Although it is still maintaining the third position, the watch hours have dropped significantly.
The same trend is observed in India also where Anek garnered more views than the highly successful horror-comedy.
The good thing is, that RRR is holding the fort continuously for seven weeks which is phenomenal and unprecedented for any Indian film.
Seeing a sensible film getting recognition is one of the blessings of OTT as the public brutally disregarded it in theatres.
